50% of the world's energy use is embodied within the construction industry. dRMM's counter-contribution to this is the Naked House, a sustainable, affordable, C02 responsible, prefabricated timber house customised to suit individual users.

It can be erected anywhere in the world where there is road or sea access, and delivered six weeks from client design approval as a flat pack in a standard container. This envelope forms the structure's base, elevating the house to the container's 3m height. The container becomes support structure, store, garage or boathouse. Naked House can be dismantled, repacked into the container, and moved to a new site anytime.

Conceptually, the house works as a cut-out diagram, with all numbered elements - including door and window openings - digitally pre-cut from substantial cross-laminated timber panels made from fast growing soft woods. This three dimensional jigsaw is secured by superlong screws, and can be assembled by four people and a small crane in two days.

Tailored to connect to existing services and heated by solar waterheating and a wastewood-burner, Naked House is a flexible and sustainable design solution for anyone, anywhere in the world. Prototype House | ESCLICE | Latvia

The concept of ESCLICE house was inspired by traditional Latvian bread – a good slice of rye bread with fresh butter is enough to gain feeling of satisfaction without eating up the whole loaf. The idea was to create a spatial structure that satisfies desire for high quality living and working environment yet reducing its costs, unnecessary space and ecological footprint to minimum; to create a space, that is easy to use, adopt and shrink or extend; space that embodies fundamental feelings of home - warmth and safety. Home that can be easily taken with you to your favorite place, adapted to the context and your personal needs, a simple home with no stress. R-House was created in full collaboration with Architecture Research Office. The prototype residence that our two design firms envisioned for Syracuse, New York, is called “R-House”, a winner of Syracuse University’s “From the Ground Up” competition, held in conjunction with the Syracuse Center of Excellence and Home Headquarters as part of their initiative to revitalize the Near Westside neighborhood of Syracuse. R-House presents an affordable, innovative paradigm for minimal to net-zero energy consumption embodied in architecture that is meant to nurture the spirit and engage the community as much as it is meant to perform in terms of cost and sustainability. Wrapped within its iconic exterior are expansive and luminous spaces that require only the equivalent energy of a hair dryer for heating. This efficient plan can be tailored to meet the needs of different families and is readily adaptable as these needs change over time. Quality standard house on two floors. Available in three sizes: Small (150 sq.m.), Medium (180 sq.m.) and Large (210 sqm) house consists of generous open spaces where the ability to move around and the place is great. The contact with the conservatory through views and vistas are an important part of the house and from different parts of the house you reach the terraces at different levels. The house is built of a higher and a lower part. The lower section houses the entrance and features bath, laundry and kitchen. In the higher part is a dining area and living room and stairs to upper floor with living room and bedroom. From the living room you reach out to the lower unit ceiling that serves as a terrace. The lower part is more closed and intimate in nature than the higher of the light by large glass partitions......more

Marlon Blackwell Architects | Porchdog House | East Biloxi, Mississippi, USA

Conceived in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, this prototypical house forms part of the Biloxi Model Homes initiative run by Architecture for Humanity.
The programme provides design services and financial assistance to families in the Mississippi city of Biloxi, whose homes were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
The challenge was to create a new type of family house that was both affordable and flood resistant, but the idea of raising a dwelling 3.4m off the ground challenges many precepts of Gulf Coast streetscape and urban identity.
The more usual housing model is a single-storey dwelling with a covered porch that addresses the street and forms a sociable, interstitial space.Blackwell’s proposal merges abstractions of traditional and modern architecture in search of a more resonant and robust new whole.
The starting point is a traditional New Orleans house type - the long, narrow shotgun house - which is cut in half and stacked up to form an elevated, two-storey dwelling.....more at AR
