Bequia House | St. Vincent and the Grenadines | Edgley Design

This five bedroom house is sited on a steep hillside in dense forest on the island of Bequia in the Caribbean, featured in Wallpaper Magazine. The design is inspired by traditional Moroccan courtyard houses, where a series of intimate spaces surround water, providing shelter from the sun throughout the day and cooling humidity from the pool. Each bedroom tower has a living space below and a private access stair. To the north of the courtyard a large hall provides eating and dining areas, and creates a sequence of spaces from a delicate balcony entrance suspended high over the treetops, through the public hall to the private towers beyond......more

Manwood Road House | Edgley Design

This newbuild house is defined by a solid wall with minimal penetrations to bookend the site. This wall defends the house from the noise of the street, and is echoed by parallel wall enclosing the side yard which maintains privacy to the adjoining house.Between these two walls, an infill of timber and glass forms an entrance to the front and frames two large ground floor windows to the rear, focusing views out to the two garden spaces beyond. The house is constructed with a timber frame, warmcell insulation and panel vent sheathing to create a breathing eco-construction with very high levels of insulation......more

Chapel Market House | London | Edgley Design

Architect Statement

We were both developer and architect on this scheme for two new houses on Chapel Market in Islington. The site is surrounded on all sides by a high wall, and turns in on itself to form a retreat from the lively bustle of the market outside. As you enter the house the spaces gradually unfold, first into a hall lit by slots of light cut up into the roof then into an open living area. These spaces are finished in natural materials- limestone and walnut- that are inviting to the touch and the barefoot resident. As you step out into the courtyard, bare brick walls and raw timber reflect the industrial history of the site......more picture of the house here
